Field Note : July 3, 2025- The Ice Cream Truck
There’s a park behind my house,
and on most days I can hear the ice cream truck’s jingle drifting through the trees.
Same tune, same loop,
same excitement rising in the distance.
It’s one of those sounds that carries more than it seems to—
hope, motion, comfort,
and the promise of something sweet.
It’s the sound of childhood joy,
and somehow still an invitation to joy now.
Some days I do a little self-check,
make sure I’m not about to head out the door,
past the garden,
through the park,
to get myself one.
Then I remember—I don’t run.
Anywhere.
Anymore.
Still, I listen for it.
And I keep my ice cream in the freezer.
